Welcome Back to School

Welcome back to Atwater Elementary School, 2012-2013 school year.  Another wonderful school year is upon us and with it comes plans for an exciting year full of enriched academic curriculum and activities.  The staff at Atwater is ready to begin the fall semester with renewed vigor.

Please understand that my staff and I will continue to go above and beyond to provide a rich standards-based instructional program by teaching to the California Content Standards that will provide your child with the curriculum, knowledge, and skills necessary for success in his or her next grade.  I firmly believe that these standards along with self-discipline and personal experiences will encourage lifelong success.  Therefore, your child will be expected to continue to follow the school’s discipline policy that ensures a positive educational climate for all learners.  In order to maximize student achievement, all students are expected to adhere to the following:

The Atwater Avenue School’s Code of Behavior, “The Atwater Way”: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.

Please discuss these Standards of Behavior with your child and keep your copy on hand for referral throughout the year.  I’d like to also remind you how important daily attendance is to your child’s success.  Please DO NOT take family vacations in the middle of the year, but schedule them during the three weeks at winter-break or one week at spring break.  Your child cannot afford to miss school for any reason except illness.  Our school funding as well as student achievement are dependent upon students being at school on time every single day!

I welcome and encourage all parents to continue taking part in their child’s education through volunteerism.  Please let your child’s teacher know if you are interested in volunteering and helping out. There is an on-campus Parent Volunteer Center (Room 3) and a parent volunteer organization named the Friends of Atwater Elementary (FoAE) created just to encourage you to get involved.

Sincerely,

Charles D. Smith, Principal
